New Release: A Prophet DVD and Blu-ray

A ProphetJacques Audiard’s A Prophet, winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival and an Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee for Best Foreign language film, was released on DVD and Blu-ray on Aug. 3, 2010, from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

The crime movie details the gritty prison career of the 19-year-old Malik (Tahar Rahim), an Arab man sent to a French prison, where he begins carrying out a number of dangerous jobs for the prison’s ruling Corsican gang. Over time, Malik is able to earn the gang leader’s confidence and rise up through the prison ranks, all while secretly devising his own plans for the future.

The fully supplemented Blu-ray Disc and DVD include the following extras:

  • A Prophet DVD boxcommentary with director Jacques Audiard, actor Tahar Rahim and co-screenwriter Thomas Bidegain
  • Deleted scenes
  • screen tests
  • rehearsal footage

In French with English subtitles, A Prophet carries a suggested retail price of $27.96 for the DVD and $38.96 for the Blu-ray.
