News: Blue Crush 2 in production

Universal Studios Home Entertainment is going back to the surf for Blue Crush 2, a sequel to the 2002 Blue Crush starring Kate Bosworth and Michelle Rodriguez as talented surfer girls. Blue Crush 2 will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in the spring of 2011.

Directed and produced by Mike Elliott (DVD movie Beethoven’s Big Break), Blue Crush 2 also is being produced by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard for Imagine Entertainment.

The DVD/Blu-ray movie stars Sasha Jackson (TV’s One Tree Hill) as Dana, a 18-year-old trophy-winning surfer who flees her Beverly Hills home for the beaches and surf of South Africa, her late mother’s home country. With her mother’s journal in hand and a gang of surf fanatics by her side, Dana attempts to fulfill her mother’s dream of surfing the barrel of the killer waves of Jeffrey’s Bay, a.k.a. J-Bay.

Also in the cast are Sharni Vinson (Step Up 3D), Elizabeth Mathis (Enchanted), Ben Miliken (Newcastle) and newcomer Chris Fisher. The movie also features female surfers from the Roxy team, some of whom currently hold a Women’s World Ranking from the Association of Surfing Professionals, including Sally Fitzgibbons (No. 1) and Laura Enever (No. 3).

The original Blue Crush grossed $40.4 million in theaters.
