New Release: Charles Bukowski One Tough Mother DVD

Infinity Entertainment released the 30th anniversary, special collector’s DVD set Charles Bukowski: One Tough Mother on Oct. 19, 2010. The two-disc set contains the final two readings of legendary American poet, novelist and cult hero Charles Bukowski (1920-1994), who is considered by many to be contemporary poetry’s most influential writer.

Charles Bukowski: One Tough Mother includes the uncut footage of Bukowski’s last two rare and spontaneous readings, There’s Gonna Be a God Damn Riot in Here!” (Vancouver, B.C., 1979) and “The Last Straw” (Redondo Beach, Calif., 1980). Like his poetry, prose and overall attitude, Bukowski’s readings were infamously raucous, volatile and combative, frequently jolting attendees out of the role of passive spectator.

Charles Bukowski: One Tough Mother DVD boxA prolific writer, Bukowski’s career spanned six decades. His explosive, booze-filled life was portrayed in the autobiographical film Barfly, starring Mickey Rourke (Iron Man 2) and Faye Dunaway (The Thomas Crown Affair). Like many legendary writers before him, Bukowski is only now achieving status as an iconic writer whose work tremendously influenced and forever changed American literature.

The Charles Bukowski: One Tough Mother DVD contains the following special features:

  • new featurette “Bukowski at the Huntington,” featuring selections from the 2006 event “Celebrating Bukowski”
  • new featurette “About Born Into This,” which includes an in-depth interview with filmmaker John Dullaghan and selections from the documentary
  • selected scenes from Love, Bukowski, featuring previously unreleased footage of the performances of three Bukowski poems from the award-winning play
  • “The Vancouver Gang,” a mini-documentary of the 25th anniversary screening of the Vancouver reading
  • “The Vancouver Letters,” Bukowski’s revealing never-before-published letters to Vancouver producer Dennis Del Torre
  • “Inscriptions of a Dirty Old Man,” Bukowski’s personal inscriptions on title pages of books gifted to Del Torre
  • bonus interview with film producers
  • and additional Bukowski poetry.
