New Release: True Grit (1969) Blu-ray

True Grit movie scene with John WayneTimed to the theatrical release of the 2010 version of western True Grit, starring Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart), Matt Damon (Green Zone) and Josh Brolin (Jonah Hex), Paramount Home Entertainment delivered the 1969 original on Blu-ray on Dec. 14, 2010.

Actor John Wayne (How the West Was Won) won an Academy Award for his performance in 1969’s True Grit. In the movie, Wayne plays the drunken, fearless one-eyed U.S. Marshall Rooster Cogburn, who’s hired by a headstrong girl (Kim Darby of Better Off Dead…) to find the man who murdered her father and fled with their family savings. He’s accompanied by an inexperienced but enthusiastic Texas Ranger (Glen Campbell of The Cool Ones), who’s looking for the killer because of a separate murder in Texas. The G-rated film also stars Robert Duvall (Apocalypse Now) and Dennis Hopper (Speed).

True Grit Blu-ray boxWayne reprised the role of Rooster Cogburn in 1975’s Rooster Cogburn, starring Katharine Hepburn (On Golden Pond).

Directed by Henry Hathaway (How the West Was Won), True Grit is based on the novel by Charles Portis.
