New Release: Letters to Father Jacob DVD

Olive Films released foreign-language drama Letters to Father Jacob on DVD on March 8, 2011, for a suggested retail price of $29.95.

In the movie, Leila (Kaarina Hazard), who’s serving a life sentence for murder, is pardoned and offered a job in a secluded parsonage reading and composing letters for Father Jacob (Heikki Nousiainen), a blind priest. Accepting the job reluctantly, she resents the man at first, but gradually grows to admire him for his positive outlook and his continued help to those seeking prayers and counsel. Two completely different lives are unexpectedly intertwined in what slowly turns into a tale of personal redemption.

Written and directed by Klaus Härö, the 2009 Finnish film was Finland’s official entry for the 2010 Academy Awards. Presented in Finnish with English subtitles, the movie was exhibited extensively on the international festival circuit and received a limited theatrical release in the U.S. this fall.

No special features are on the Letters to Father Jacob DVD.
