News: Johnny Depp, Denzel Washington are favorite movie stars

After surveying adults online in December, The Harris Poll released the findings for its new top 10, all of which were stars on DVD and Blu-ray last year too.

The Golden Globe nominee rose up one place in The Harris Poll’s survey from last year, bowing at No. 1. Depp’s latest movie, Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland was released on DVD and Blu-ray in June and on Blu-ray 3D in December. Earlier this month, one of Depp’s earlier films, Once Upon a Time in Mexico made its Blu-ray debut. Depp is currently in theaters in The Tourist with No. 5 on The Harris Poll’s Favorite Movie Star list, Angelina Jolie.

2. Denzel Washington

Also moving up one spot from last year’s Favorite Movie Star list, Washington saved the city of Scranton from exploding in a train crash last year in Unstoppable, which will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on Feb. 15. Washington’s 1992 drama Malcolm X, which honored the actor with a Best Actor Oscar nomination, makes its high-definition Blu-ray debut on Jan. 25.

3. John Wayne

The only actor to be on the Favorite Movie Star list every year since 1994, Wayne returned to disc in December when his 1969 True Grit arrived on high-definition Blu-ray for the first time. The remake is still raking in receipts at the box office, but its star, Jeff Bridges, didn’t make it on The Harris Poll list. Sorry, Jeff, but we’re sure that with Tron: Legacy and True Grit wowing audiences, you’ll make the list next year.

4. Harrison Ford

Han Solo wasn’t on The Harris Poll’s list last year, but this year, he was voted the fourth Favorite Movie Star. Ford made theater audiences laugh with comedy Morning Glory last year, and the film is coming to DVD and Blu-ray in March. But perhaps even more exciting for Ford fans is the news that his Star Wars movies will be on Blu-ray in September.

5. Angelina Jolie

While she seduced the No. 1 Favorite Movie Star in The Tourist in theaters, Jolie thrilled home viewers with her is-she-or-isn’t-she Russian spy portrayal in Salt, which was released on DVD and Blu-ray in December.

Hanks’ older movie You’ve Got Mail is scheduled to debut on Blu-ray on Feb. 1, and the World War II mini-series The Pacific, which Hanks executive produced, hit DVD and Blu-ray in November. Clooney also had a busy year on DVD and Blu-ray with the new releases of  Up in the Air and The Men Who Stare at Goats, his older The Peacemaker bowing on high-definition and his much older appearance in TVs Golden Girls in the Golden Girls Complete Series DVD.
