New Release: Kings of Pastry DVD

Those with a relentless sweet tooth will be psyched to hear that First Run Features released the acclaimed 2010 documentary Kings of Pastry on DVD on Feb. 22, 2011.

For Kings of Pastry, distinguished filmmakers D A Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus (The War Room, Don’t Look Back) turn their sights on the competition for the Meilleurs Ouvriers de France, France’s Nobel Prize for pastry. Pennebaker and Hegedus secured exclusive access to shoot this epic, never-before-filmed test of France’s finest artisans.

Sixteen chefs whip up their most gorgeous, delectable, gravity-defying concoctions — as well as edge-of-the-seat drama — as they deliver their fantastical, spun-sugar desserts to the display table. The inevitable disasters prove both poignant and hilarious. The film also follows chef Jacquy Pfeiffer, co- founder of Chicago’s French Pastry School, as he journeys back to his childhood home of Alsace to practice for the contest.

DVD bonus features include the following:

  • Chef Jacquy Pfeiffer creating a chocolate sculpture
  • interview with the filmmakers
  • Chocolate Fashion Show

The Kings of Pastry DVD carries a list price of $27.95.
