Surfer girls are back in Hollywood. With theatrical movie Soul Surfer, the movie about a teenage surfer girl who went back into the ocean after losing her arm in a shark attack, on disc on Aug. 2, 2011, Universal Studios Home Entertainment delivered Blue Crush 2 to DVD
and Blu-ray
on June 7, 2011.
Premiering on DVD and Blu-ray without a run in theaters first, Blue Crush 2 follows the 2002 movie Blue Crush starring Kate Bosworth and Michelle Rodriguez as surfer girls trying to make ends meet in Hawaii. But, other the name and surfer girl theme, Blue Crush 2, which we reported as being in production back in July last year, isn’t related to the original film.
Blue Crush 2 stars Sasha Jackson (TV’s One Tree Hill) as a California surfer who goes to South Africa to fulfill her late mother’s dream of surfing the legendary Jeffrey’s Bay. The movie also stars Sharni Vinson (Step Up 3) and Elizabeth Mathis (Unstoppable), as well as features such professional female surfers as Sally Fitzgibbons, Bianca Buitendag, Rosy Hodge, Tanika Hoffman and Danielle Le Roux, among others.
Judging by the trailer (watch it below), the movie looks like what you’d expect for a DVD premiere addition to the franchise: a teen adventure with action, friendship and pretty young actresses — not brilliant, but a fine way to spend a couple hours if surfing is your thing.
Universal packed the DVD and Blu-ray with special features:
- deleted scenes
- gag reel
- making-of featurette
- “Surf Safari! Filming in South Africa” with the cast and crew giving viewers a guided tour of the movie’s locations
- “Ripping It! Shooting the Surf Scenes” with the filmmakers showing the techniques they used and how the film’s stars trained to the surf sequences
- and commentary with director Mike Elliott (DVD premiere movie Beethoven’s Big Break) and cast.
The Blu-ray also has Universal’s usual extras:
- BD-Live
- My Scenes
- and Pocket Blu to make smartphones into a remote control and download content.

Looks great. I follow Sasha Jackson who is a beautiful actress and I can’t wait to see him in this film. Would of loved to see it on a big screen but I have ordered my copy already. Go Sasha X
That’s great, Dave. Big screen is always nice, but some movies are fine just at home.
