Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope

Lucasfilm says: May the 4th be with you! On May 4, the production company will reveal all the details of the Blu-ray release of their Star Wars movies. Lucasfilm has even setup an online countdown at

We do already know some details, of course. Back in January, distribution company 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment said all six films will be available on Blu-ray in September. Amazon has listed Sept. 16 as the release date for a while.

The science-fiction films that made Darth Vader, Leia, Luke and Han household names — not to mention Yoda, Chewy, Obi-Won, R2D2… — will be released on the high-definition format in three sets:

A Star Wars: The Complete Saga nine-disc set with all six movies, for completists fans

A Star Wars: The Original Trilogy three-disc set with Episodes IV to VI (A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi), for those fans who want to forget the three prequels were ever made

And a Star Wars: The Prequel Trilogy three-disc set with Episodes I to III (The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith), for … well, we’re not sure who would want to buy just this set, but Fox probably figured they had to offer it just in case — to keep the universe in balance or something.

The Complete Saga does look like the must-buy set, however, as three of those nine discs will have more than 30 hours of special features, including newly released deleted and alternate scenes.

Stay tuned til the 4th.
