News: Hints for Paul, X-Men First Class DVD/Blu-ray releases

Paul Steelbook Blu-ray boxAccording to reports from overseas, alien comedy movie Paul and prequel X-Men First Class are due on DVD and Blu-ray in special sets on June 13 and in October, respectively, timeframes that fit in the U.S. too. The question is, will these sets be offered here?

Amazon U.K. has Paul available for pre-order in a very cool-looking Limited Edition Steelbook Blu-ray/DVD combo set that will be released on June 13. Distributor Universal Studios Home Entertainment hasn’t released details for the U.S. release of Paul on DVD and Blu-ray, and Amazon.com hasn’t opened pre-orders yet. However, the movie arrived in theaters here on March 20, 10 days after it bowed in the U.K., which makes a late-June/July DVD and Blu-ray release about right.

Amazon U.K. also has pre-orders open for a two-DVD “Probed” set and a Blu-ray/DVD and digital copy combo of Paul. The site doesn’t have any special features listed.

The comedy wasn’t a blow-away success in theaters, grossing $37 million, but it got pretty nice reviews and should gain a bigger audience on disc. It tells the story of two British comic book geeks (Simon Pegg of Shaun of the Dead and Nick Frost of Pirate Radio) who are traveling across the U.S. when they encounter an alien (voiced by Seth Rogan, The Green Hornet) outside Area 51. Jane Lynch (TV’s Glee), Jeffrey Tambor (TV’s Arrested Development), Sigourney Weaver (Avatar) and Jason Bateman (The Switch) are also in the film.

X-Men First Class limited edition DVD/Blu-ray setX-Men First Class — which looks great, by the way — doesn’t even hit theaters until June 3, but movie blog Filmonic reports that French website Fnac is offering a big limited edition DVD and Blu-ray set for release in October. Again, the timeframe is right for the U.S. too.

The limited DVD and Blu-ray set will include a T-shirt, an Emma Frost comic book and 10 character cards.

The science-fiction film explores how the X-Men came to be, starring James McAvoy (The Last Station) as Professor Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender (Centurion) as Magneto, January Jones (Unknown) as Emma Frost, Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone) as Mystique, plus Rose Byrne (TV’s Damages) and Kevin Bacon (Sleepers).

If these two sets do make it onto these shores, they’ll be on our to-buy list. How about yours?
