New Release: The River Murders DVD

The River Murders movie scene

Sorrow seeps through Ray Liotta and Gisele Fraga in The River Murders.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will premiere the 2011 thriller The River Murders, starring Ray Liotta (Something Wild), Christian Slater (In the Name of the Rose) and Ving Rhames (Piranha), on DVD on Sept. 20 for the list price of $26.99.

The film follows homicide detective Jack Verdon (Liotta) as his past comes back to haunt him when his ex-girlfriend becomes the target of a serial killer who’s determined to destroy him. Suspected by the FBI agent (Slater) who has taken over the case and suspended by his captain (Rhames), Jack must work outside the law if he’s to find the killer, save his future and protect what’s left of his past.

Though the plot of The River Murders (originally entitled The River Sorrow) reads like a relatively undistinguished serial killer crime movie, we’ve got to admit we’re a little surprised this one is premiering on DVD, considering its impressive cast.

Directed and produced by Rich Cowan (Shadow of Fear) from a screenplay by Steve Anderson (Promised Land), the R-rated The River Murders arrives on DVD with the following bonus materials:

  • commentary with director/producer Rich Cowan, cinematographer Dan Heigh and editor Jason A. Payne
  • commentary with writer Steve Anderson, actor/producer Sarah Ann Schultz and actors Gisele Fraga and Michael Rodrick
  • “The Making of The River Murders” featurette
