New Release: Park Benches DVD

Park Benches movie scene

Catherine Deneuve and Bruno Podalydès are two of dozens of performers in Park Benches.

The acclaimed 2009 French comedy film Park Benches (Bancs publics), an IFC film, was released on DVD on July 26, 2011, by Entertainment One. The disc carries a list price of $24.98.

Directed and co-written by Bruno Podalydès (the “Montmartre” segment of Paris, Je T’Aime), the movie interweaves three primary stories set in a wealthy Paris suburb: one involving a lonely man and the office workers across the way, another focusing on the people in a local park, and a third dealing with those in a nearby home-improvement store. The stories are set into motion via the aforementioned lonely guy, ultimately revealing that wealthy suburbanites aren’t always as happy as they appear to be.

Featuring nearly 90 speaking parts and an all-star cast that includes such well-known French actors as Catherine Deneuve (The Hunger), Mathieu Amalric (Wild Grass), Olivier Gourmet (Mesrine: Public Enemy #1), Chiara Mastroianni (Persepolis) and Michael Lonsdale (Of Gods and Men), Park Benches premiered in the U.S. on DVD.

No special features are on the DVD of the film, which is presented in French with English subtitles.
