Carrie Fisher is a screenwriter, an author, an actress, a Star Wars icon and a child of Hollywood royalty (her parents are the late Eddie Fisher and the beloved Debbie Reynolds). That said, she’s got a lot she can talk about….and she does in HBO’s adaptation of her acclaimed 2009 autobiographical Broadway show Wishful Drinking.
The one-woman show finds Fisher giving a raucous performance which strips away her celebrity veneer with a shocking amount of honest. She discusses everything from her parents’ scandalous and very public divorce and her own personal relationships to her drug and alcohol addiction, stints in rehab, diagnosis of bipolar disorder and electroshock therapy. It’s a very, er, therapeutic night at the theater…and, yes, it’s filled with comedy.
Additionally, Wishful Thinking includes archival footage from her Fisher’s childhood and more recent past.
The feature program has a running time of 76 minutes.
Bonus features on the DVD include an interview with Debbie Reynolds and a collection of deleted scenes.
