Jack & JillAdam Sandler (Fifty First Dates) joined the many male comedians who have played women in Jack & Jill, and like Eddie Murphy in Norbit, Sandler’s performance was received with a big, huge raspberry.

In the movie, Sandler plays family man Jack Sadelstein and his needy, passive-aggressive  twin sister Jill, who comes to Jack’s house for Thanksgiving and refuses to leave.

The cast of the comedy also features Katie Holmes (The Kennedys) as Jack’s wife, David Spade (TV’s Rules of Engagement), Nick Swardson (30 Minutes or Less), Norm MacDonald (TV’s Saturay Night Live) and Al Pacino (Carlito’s Way) as himself.

Rated PG, Jack and Jill was directed by Dennis Dugan, who has helmed six of Sandler’s movies: Happy Gilmore, Big Daddy, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, You Don’t Mess With the Zohan, Grown-Ups and Just Go With It.

All that peigree helped the film score a nice $71.7 million in theaters, but that was no thanks to the reviews. Critics skewered Jack & Jill, giving the movie a dismal 3% approval rating, according to Rotten Tomatoes. That’s even worse than Murphy’s Norbit, which got 9%.

What Culture‘s Shaun Munro wrote that Jack & Jill is “so unforgivably, soul-destroying bad, it’ll have you wishing Pacino had made Righteous Kill 2 instead.” Ouch!

Sony has added value to the movie for the DVD and Blu-ray. All three versions, including the Blu-ray/DVD Combo pack, contain these special features:

  • deleted scenes
  • blooper reel
  • and two featurettes:
    • “Look Who Stopped By”
    • and “Boys Will Be Girls.”

The single Blu-ray and Blu-ray/DVD Combo also has these exclusive extras:

  • featurette “Stomach Ache”
  • featurette “Don’t Call It a Boat — Royal Caribbean”
  • and UltraViolet, which allows owners to add the movie to their collection in the digital cloud for download or instant streaming.
