Vamps movie scene

Krysten Ritter (l.) and Alicia Silverstone love the nightlife in Vamps.

The vampire craze meets the era of the party girl in the 2012 comedy-romance film Vamps, starring Alicia Silverstone (Clueless) and Krysten Ritter (TV’s Don’t Trust the B— in Apartment 23) as two eternally young party girls (guess why they’re eternally young…!) navigating the dating world in the Big City.

Remember when vampire movies used to be horror films and not romantic comedies?

Goody (Silverstone) and Stacy (Ritter) are addicted to the night life, clubbing and hooking up, all the while keeping a big a secret: They’re actually modern-day vampires. But even with lifetimes of dating experience behind them, the duo realizes they still have a lot to learn about love when Stacy unexpectedly falls for the son of a vampire hunter, and Goody runs into the man of her dreams from decades earlier.  With their destinies at stake, the girls are faced with a difficult choice; give up their eternal youth for a chance at love, or continue to live their uncomplicated fabulously single lives forever.

The PG-13-rated Vamps is written and directed by Amy Heckerling (Fast Times at Ridgemont High), who first worked with Silverstone back on 1995’s beloved Clueless. Heckerling’s last feature film was 2007’s I Could Never Be Your Woman, which endured a troubled road to distribution before premiering on DVD.

Vamps boasts a pretty impressive supporting cast which includes Richard Lewis (Leaving Las Vegas), Justin Kirk (TV’s Weeds), Wallace Shawn (Jack and the Beanstalk), Kristen Johnson (Bride Wars) and the very busy Sigourney Weaver (Rampart), who’s popped up in more than a half-dozen movies and starred in a TV miniseries (USA’s Political Animals) in the past two years.

Vamps will also have a limited release to theaters in the U.S. on Nov. 2, 2012, a couple of weeks prior to its release on disc.
