Inspired by true events, People Like Us stars Chris Pine in a story about a man’s journey of self-discovery as he tries to connect to a family he barely knows.
Pine plays Sam in the movie, a salesman who fails to close his latest deal the same day his father dies. Against his wishes, he’s called home to put his dad’s estate in order. As he reconnects with his estranged family, he discovers a secret that turns his world upside down — he has an older sister (Elizabeth Banks, The Hunger Games) he didn’t know existed.
Olivia Wilde (The Change-Up), Mark Duplass (Safety Not Guaranteed) and Michelle Pfeiffer (New Year’s Eve) also star in the drama, which is the first feature film directed by writer by Alex Kurtzman (Cowboys & Aliens). Kurtzman co-wrote the script with Roberto Orci (TV’s Fringe) and first-time writer Jody Lambert.
People Like Us grossed $12.4 million when it was in theaters, garnering mixed reviews from critics. Richard Roeper praised the film’s writing, but Newark Star-Ledger critic Stephen Whitty said, “What they’ve really done is stitch together a decade’s worth of Katherine Heigl/Jennifer Aniston/Kate Hudson romantic comedies, then cut out all the romance and most of the comedy.”
All home versions of the movie come with special features. On the DVD:

Saw this last month and it was actually pretty good. With all the blockbusters this summer & all the whizz bang action sequences, this one was a nice change. A good story (disagree with the critic who compares it to the America’s sweetheart rom-coms.) Elizabeth Banks was exceptionally good. It would be a good rental for the weekend.
