The Good DoctorOrlando Bloom (Pirates of the Caribbean movies) explores his creepy side in thriller film The Good Doctor.

Far from Lord of the Rings good elf Legolas, in The Good Doctor Bloom plays the ambitious young Dr. Martin Blake, who’s anxious to impress his superiors and colleagues.

Things aren’t going well for Blake and his insecurity is building when he starts treating 18-year-old Diane (Riley Keough, The Runaways) for a kidney infection. Trying to get the self-esteem boost he craves, Blake’s enthusiasm for his patient becomes more of an obsession.

Rated PG-13, the independent film was screened in only a handful of theaters, so the DVD and Blu-ray give The Good Doctor its biggest audience.

Critics gave the movie mixed reviews. Richard Roeper called the film a “creepy, effectively chilling piece of work,” saying that “Bloom gives one of his most interesting performances.” But Newark Star-Ledger critic Stephen Whitty wrote of The Good Doctor: “Its meaning is unclear, its vital signs are shaky. And before long, the whole frail thing’s on life support, just begging for somebody to pull the plug.” Ouch!

The DVD and Blu-ray come with just a couple featurettes for extras:

  • “Making of The Good Doctor
  • and “AXS TV: A Look at The Good Doctor.
