The Way We Were sceneThe much-loved 1973 romantic drama The Way We Were starring Barbra Streisand (A Star is Born) and Robert Redford (The Sting) is finally coming to Blu-ray in the U.S.!

The film tells the story of the romance, marriage and break-up of the oh-so-Jewish liberal-minded Katie Morosky (Streisand) and the not-particularly-political WASP writer Hubbell Gardiner (Redford). It begins when the two meet at college in the 1930s, and follows them through the next three decades, which find the two falling in love, marrying, and then trying to overcome their differences. By the end, it’s clear that it won’t work between them, but they will always have thememories of, well, the way they were.

Directed by Sydney Pollack and written by Arthur Laurents (based on his college days at Cornell and his experiences with the House Un-American Activities Committee), the movie co-stars Bradford Dillman, Viveca Lindfors and Murray Hamilton. Oh yeah, it also features an Oscar-winning title song and score by the late Marvin Hamlisch.

Bonus features have not been announced yet, but based on previous Twilight Time Blu-ray releases, we’re thinking there might be an isolated music track included.

As Twilight Time prints up only 3,000 copies of each title, you should get ready to pre-order your Blu-ray disc directly from distributor Screen Archives. (The pre-book date is Oct. 23.)
