Dealin’ with Idiots movie scene

Jeff Garlin becomes exasperated while Dealin’ with Idiots.

Writer-director Jeff Garlin (HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm) assembles a lineup of comedy all-stars for Dealin’ with Idiots, a 2013 comedy film about the tumultuous world of youth baseball (or, as I affectionately remember it, Little League).

While attending his son’s little league game, comedian Max Morris (Garlin) thinks he has found the inspiration for his next film: the absurd competitiveness of organized youth sports. He sets out to interview the team’s odd, colorful and very offbeat parents and coaches in order to gather material. While in the midst of the endless fundraising and post-game snack protocols, Max reflects back on his own experiences as a kid and why he loves the game despite all the lunacy surrounding it.

Co-starring with Garlin in the film are Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding), Bob Odenkirk (TV’s Breaking Bad), Gina Gershon (Killer Joe), Timothy Olyphant (TV’s Justified), Fred Willard (Youth in Revolt) and J.B. Smoove (HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm).

The unrated Dealin’ With Idiots hit U.S. theaters for a limited rollout in July, 2013, along with its premiere on VOD and iTunes. The critics didn’t love it, but they acknowledged high spirits, with Andy Webster of The New York Times declaring that “The results are amusing if predictably mild.”
