Endless LoveThe classic romance, called “The greatest love story of all time,” is remade in the 2014 version of Endless Love.

The new movie stars Gabriella Wilde (Carrie) and Alex Pettyfer (Magic Mike) as fated lovers Jade and David, who were played by Brooke Shields and Martin Hewitt in the original.

Teens Jade and David begin an all-encompassing love affair, but when Jade’s privileged parents try to keep them apart, the romance turns to tragedy.

Bruce Greenwood (Flight) and Joely Richardson (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) star as Jade’s wealthy parents, Rhys Wakefield (The Purge) plays Jade’s brother and Robert Patrick (Gangster Squad) is David’s father.

Endless Love Blu-ray boxDirected and co-written by Shana Feste (Country Strong), the new Endless Love has a more audience-friendly PG-13 rating instead of the original’s R, but the film didn’t perform too well at the box office, grossing $23 million in wide release. The 1981 Endless Love grossed more than that in a quarter of the theaters more than 30 years ago.

The 2014 Endless Love also didn’t connect with critics. They gave it an average approval rating of a measly 15%, according to Rotten Tomatoes. RogerEbert.com‘s Christy Lemire called the movie “an extended ad for the idyllic Abercrombie & Fitch lifestyle.” Ouch! But moviegoers liked it better, at 64%.

Both the DVD and Blu-ray include a making-of featurette. The Blu-ray/DVD Combo also adds an extended ending and deleted/extended/alternate scenes and digital copy via UltraViolet.
