Billy Crudup in The Stanford Prison Experiment

Billy Crudup in The Stanford Prison Experiment

Based on a notorious true story, The Stanford Prison Experiment stars Billy Crudup (Almost Famous) as Stanford University professor Dr. Philip Zimbardo, who, in 1971, cast 24 student volunteers as prisoners and guards in a simulated jail to examine the source of abusive behavior in the prison system.

The results astonished the world, as participants went from middle-class undergrads to drunk-with-power sadists and submissive victims in just a few days.

Joining Crudup are co-stars Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower), Olivia Thirlby (Margaret), Tye Sheridan (The Tree of Life), Keir Gilchrist (It Follows), Michael Angarano (Haywire) and Thomas Mann (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl). Created with the close participation of Dr. Zimbardo himself, the film is directed by Kyle Patrick Alvarez (C.O.G.).

Nominated by the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, Stanford won that festival’s Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize and the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award.
