Filmmaker Robert Zemeckis, (Flight, Who Framed Roger Rabbit) uses state-of-the-art technology to bring to life the true story of The Walk, an biographical drama-adventure about young French high-wire walker Philippe Petit who, in the summer of 1974, took a walk on the wire between the upper floors of New York City’s World Trade Center towers.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt takes a stroll among the clouds as Philippe Petit in The Walk.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Don Jon) stars as Petit, the young dreamer who brings together a band of unlikely recruits to achieve the impossible: a wire walk in the immense void between the Twin Towers. With little more than nerve and blind ambition, Petit and his ragtag crew overcome daunting physical obstacles, betrayals, countless close calls and overwhelming odds to beat the system and execute their mad plan.

The Walk also features Ben Kingsley (Exodus: Gods and Kings), Charlotte Le Bon, James Badge Dale (World War Z) and Ben Schwartz (Peep World) in the cast.

Despite solid reviews—it garnered an 85% rating at Rotten Tomatoes based on a whopping 203 published reviews—The Walk didn’t click in U.S. theaters, where it rang up a disappointing $10.3 million in wide release in November. It’s sure to see more action on living room screens…!

Bonus materials on The Walk Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD include the featurette “Pillars of Support,” which spotlights the characters portrayed in the film by Kingsley, Dale and Le Bon. The Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray include exclusive additional bonus materials, including deleted scenes and two behind-the-scenes featurettes. In “First Steps,” we see Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s first steps on the wire during pre-production, as he learns to “walk the rope” from Philippe Petit. Viewers also hear the actor and his mentor talking about the physical and mental skills required to master the art of wire-walking. “The Amazing Walk” is a three-part series that breaks down “the walk.” In addition, the featurette touches on the recreation of the Twin Towers and their role as a character in the film.
