Breckin Meyer (l.) and Ryan Phillippe in 54: The Director’s Cut.

Breckin Meyer (l.) and Ryan Phillippe in 54: The Director’s Cut.

Directed by Mark Christopher, the film stars Ryan Phillippe (The Lincoln Lawyer), Salma Hayek (Savages), Sela Ward (The Fugitive), Breckin Meyer (Stag Party), Neve Campbell (Scream) and Mike Myers (Austin Powers).

The story of three friends — a busboy (Phillippe), a bartender (Meyer) and a coat-check girl (Hayek) — and the sordid love triangle that nearly tore them apart, set against the glittery excess of New York’s Studio 54 dance club, the film originally included a menage-a-trois plot between Phillippe, Meyer and Hayek. That was snipped away after a disastrous test screening, along with nearly all traces of Phillippe’s character’s bisexuality.

The new cut of the film, which debuted positively at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2015 was released as a Digital HD title last June.
