The 1980 comedy 9 to 5, written by Patricia Resnick and director Colin Higgins, is an of-the-moment social comedy with enduring ramifications, focusing on the trials and tribulations of three working women, fabulously played by Jane Fonda (Cat Ballou), Lily Tomlin (Nashville), and Steel Magnolia‘s Dolly Parton (making her movie debut). Suffering under the world’s worst – and most sexist – boss (Dabney Coleman, Tootsie), the trio live out their madcap fantasies of revenge and ultimate triumph, proving themselves magnificently in the process.
