A child’s angelic face conceals a budding sociopath in the historical mystery-drama The Childhood of a Leader, the feature film directorial debut from actor Brady Corbet.

childhood1_optSet amidst the turmoil of World War I and its aftermath, the film follows the young son of an American diplomat living in France as he learns to manipulate the adults around him-a monstrous coming of age that ominously parallels the rising tide of Fascism in Europe.

Led by an international cast featuring by Robert Pattinson (Cosmopolis) and Bérénice Bejo (The Artist), the movie is loosely inspired by the early childhood experiences of many of the most notorious dictators of the 20th Century.

The film’s memorable score is provided by musician Scott Walker.
