The British crime-thriller Rise of the Footsoldier Part II is the follow-up to 2007’s cult hit Rise of the Footsoldier.

The second film in the series (made in 2015, some eight years after the release of the original!) once again follows the oh-so-violent life and career of football-hooligan-turned-professional-criminal Carlton Leach (once again portrayed by Ricci Harnett of 28 Days Later fame—who also takes over the directing chores for this outing). Though Carlton is still mourning the loss of his friends and is convinced that it’s only a matter of time before he’s next, he figures that the only way out is to go back in and work his way back up the criminal ladder. Not surprisingly, the high Carlton gets, the more violent the jobs become, until his quest for power turns into an obsession. With his life and family on the line, can Carlton hold it together and come out on top?

Returning from the original film are co-stars Craig Fairbrass (Dead Cert), along with first-timers Steven Berkoff (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) and Charlie Heaton.

Bonus features on the DVD include a commentary by director/star Harnett and a making-of featurette.

Fans take note: there’s a Rise of the Footsoldier Part 3 out there as well, a 2017 production starring Craig Fairbrass that serves as a prequel to the original films. Lionsgate is probably gearing up for its release later this year….
