New Release: Pirate Radio DVD and Blu-ray

Pirate Radio Blu-ray boxPhilip Seymour Hoffman in a comedy with a great soundtrack … it’s like Almost Famous all over again.

In Pirate Radio, however, Hoffman plays a 1960s DJ who starts an illegal radio station on a boat in the North Sea. The movie was released on DVD and Blu-ray on April 13, 2010, from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

The film, which also stars funny men Bill Nighy (Love Actually) and Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz), brought in an impressive $7.9 million in a limited release in theaters (882 screens at its widest).

Universal was being modest with the special features on the DVD, offering just deleted scenes and a commentary featuring director Richard Curtis, producer Hilary Bevan Jones and actors Frost and Chris O’Dowd.

The Blu-ray version also will have BD-Live access and Universal’s Pocket Blu iPhone/iTouch app, which allows smartphones and computers to interact with Blu-ray player.

The DVD will be priced at $29.98 and Blu-ray at $36.98.
