Couples Retreat movie scene with Vince VaughnWith a script written by Vince Vaughn (The Dilemma), Jon Favreau (Iron Man 2) and What Happens In Vegas‘ Dana Fox, it’s no wonder that Couples Retreat is a laughfest. On Blu-ray, the crystal clear blue of the Polynesian waters won’t matter nearly as much as the fact that this cast delivers funny.

Grossing $109 million in theaters, Couples Retreat follows four couples at a couple-building retreat, each with their own relationship issues.

Favreau and Vaughn also star, along with movie wives Kristin Davis (Sex and the City 2) and Malin Akerman (Watchmen), respectively. Funny man Jason Bateman (The Switch) is paired with When in Rome‘s Kristen Bell, and Faizon Love (The Perfect Holiday) searches for love with relatively unknown Kali Hawk (Pushing Thirty).

The Blu-ray has the same special features as the DVD, with more laughs to be had in the gag reel and “Therapy’s Greatest Hits” featurette, in which John Michael Higgins (The Ugly Truth), Ken Jeong (The Hangover) and the other resort therapists are turned loose.

Two other featurettes are included (“Paradise Found: Filming in Bora Bora” and “Behind the Yoga”) as well as commentary with Vaughn and director Peter Billingsley. Plus, there’s an alternate ending that shows the couples returning home. It’s nice to watch, but as goofy as the movie’s ending is, we prefer it.
