The Last Hurrah is a last-chance college party movie in the tradition of the Susannah Hoff’s 1980s movie The Allnighter.

Set at a house party in Los Angeles, best friends and philosophy grad students Wil (Zack Bennett), Jason (David Wachs), and Steve (Jon Weinberg) struggle with their women issues while tossing off philosophical quips and pondering the meaning of life.

A host of extras float in and out of the party, including a man who goes by the name of God (Martin Kelly), as well as “The Trip” (Gary Cairns II), a grad-school dropout who inspires awe in everyone.

What would be a typical comedy is elevated by the filmmaking technique – director Jonathan Stokes shot the entire 88 minutes in one single continuous shot. As he explains in the special features, he treated the production like a stage play, running through rehearsals and blocking his actors. The payoff is worth it, because though the dialog doesn’t frequently deliver, the movie itself is a treat to watch.

Plus, this independent film comes packed with extras.
