A Halloween classic, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown debuted on Blu-ray on Sept. 7, 2010, a few weeks before the scary holiday. Bowing on DVD the same day was Bugs Bunny’s Howl-oween Special, both from Warner Home Video.
Great Pumpkin, which originally aired on TV in 1966 and was nominated for an Emmy award, was remastered for its Blu-ray release, priced at $24.98. The animated movie also was made available in a new Deluxe Edition DVD, priced at $19.97. Bugs Bunny was priced at $14.97, only on DVD.
In Great Pumpkin, the Peanuts gang get ready for trick and treating and crashing Violet’s Halloween party, all except Linus, who decides to hold vigil in the pumpkin patch to await the arrival of the Great Pumpkin with Sally by his side.
Special features include:
- It’s Magic, Charlie Brown, bonus episode with Snoopy checking out a book on magic tricks from the library then putting on a show with Marcie and Sally his assistants.
- We Need a Blockbuster, Charlie Brown documentary featurette about It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, including interviews with members of the Schulz family and producers.
Bug Bunny’s Howl-oween Special combines a medley of Looney Tunes cartoon shorts, including “A-Haunting We Will Go,” “Broom-Stick Bunny,” “Hyde and Hare,” “Hyde and Go Tweet,” “A Witch’s Tangled Hare” and “Bewitched Bunny.”
The Special‘s extra include:
- Hair-Raising Hare bonus short, in which Bugs Bunny is lured into the castle of an evil scientist who plans to feed him to an orange-haired, sneaker-wearing monster.
- Interactive Menu-based Puzzle Game, which once finished it plays a fun Looney Tunes clip.
Warner also released another Peanuts movie in a Deluxe Edition DVD on Sept. 21, the Emmy-nominated He’s Your Dog, Charlie Brown, priced at $19.98.
In 1968’s He’s Your Dog, Snoopy’s mischief annoys the Peanuts gang, causing Charlie Brown to enroll his dog in an obedience training refresher course, but Snoopy finds refuge at Peppermint Patty’s house.
The DVD will include these special features:
- Life is a Circus, Charlie Brown bonus episode in which Snoopy joins the circus when he falls for one of its performers, a white poodle named Fifi. Life is a Circus, Charlie Brown won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program.
- Snoopy’s Ice Home, the story of the Redwood Empire Ice Arena.
