New Release: The Last Airbender DVD and Blu-ray

The Last Airbender movie sceneM. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender came to DVD and Blu-ray on Nov. 16, 2010, from Paramount Home Entertainment.

The PG-rated fantasy movie, which grossed $131 million in theaters, is based on the animated television series about Aang, the last in a long line of Avatar airbenders who must stop the Fire nation from enslaving the Water, Earth and Air nations. In each nation, benders have the ability to control the elements. The airbenders are the most powerful but the world hasn’t seen an airbender for a long time, allowing the Fire nation to gain power.

The Last Airbender stars newcomer Noah Ringer as Aang, who teams up with Nicola Peltz (Harold), who can control water, and Jackson Rathbone (The Twilight Saga: New Moon) to defeat Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire), a Fire prince.

On DVD ($19.99), the movie comes with these special features:

  • “Origins of the Avatar”
  • outtakes
  • and four deleted scenes.

On Blu-ray, The Last Airbender is available in a single-disc Blu-ray only version and a two-disc Blu-ray/DVD combo pack.

    • “World” about the movie’s sets, props, costumes and makeup
    • “Action” exploring Shymalan’s process of “bending” through martial arts
    • “Effects” about the computer-generated imagery of the movie
    • “Music” with composer James Newton Howard
    • and “Finale” exploring the ice wall scene.

In the Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, the DVD includes the film and a downloadable digital copy. The Blu-ray/DVD combo pack was priced at $29.99 and the single Blu-ray at $24.99.
