New Release: Straight to Hell Returns DVD

Microcinema released Straight to Hell Returns, a new version of Alex Cox’s 1986 western-flavored movie Straight To Hell, on DVD on Dec. 14, 2010, for a suggested retail price of $24.95.

The movies tells the story of a group of hapless bank robbers (Sy Richardson, Joe Strummer, Dick Rude) who bury their loot and attempt to hide out in a deserted desert town. They quickly discover that the town is not deserted which doesn’t stop a whole lot of feasting, singing and overall decadence … followed by a slew of inevitable deaths.

Courtney Love stars in the cult film favorite, which also features director Jim Jarmusch (Broken Flowers), composer Shane MacGowan (P.S. I Love You), Biff Yeager (TV’s Gilmore Girls), Dennis Hopper (Speed), Grace Jones (Conan the Destroyer) and Miguel Sandoval (TV’s Medium).

The DVD features digitally improved violence and cruelty, six missing scenes, a new 5.1 stereo soundtrack by Academy Award winner Richard Beggs and a new color design by cinematographer Tom Richmond.

Extras on the Straight to Hell Returns DVD include the following:

  • audio commentary by director Alex Cox and actor Dick Rude (Repo Man)
  • “Black Hills” tour of the Straight To Hell locations shot by Alex Cox in 1977
