Christmas Movie Advent Calendar Day 10: Elf

Elf movie sceneFunnyman Will Ferrell (The Other Guys) stars in the No. 16 film in Disc Dish‘s top 25 Christmas movie list, Elf.

Released in 2003, the comedy features Ferrell as Buddy, a man who was raised in the North Pole as an elf. When his size starts wreaking havoc on the community, he’s goes to America in search of his birth father, Walter Hobbs (James Caan, Middle Men). Hobbs, as it turns out, has been on Santa’s naughty list for a while, but, as Buddy learns all about the trials and tribulations of New York City, Hobbs learns to re-evaluate his priorities.

Sweet, silly and, of course, funny, the PG-rated film is filled with recognizable names: Bob Newhart (TV’s Newhart), Ed Asner (TV’s The Practice), Mary Steenburgen (Back to the Future III), Zooey Deschanel (Almost Famous), Faizon Love (Couples Retreat]), Peter Dinklage (Saint John of Las Vegas), Amy Sedaris (Strangers With Candy), Andy Richter (TV’s Andy Barker, P.I.), Howard Stern regular Artie Lange and others.

And the movie was directed by Iron Man 2‘s Jon Favreau, his first big-budget film.

Elf is available on DVD and Blu-ray from Warner Home Video and was released on both formats in an Ultimate Collector’s Edition tin in November.
