New Release: Jeff Beck: Rock ‘N’ Roll Party Honoring Les Paul Blu-ray, DVD

Jeff Beck (l.) and Brian Setzer rock this town in the name of Les Paul.

Eagle Rock released Jeff Beck: Rock ‘N’ Roll Party Honoring Les Paul on DVD and Blu-ray on Feb. 22, 2011.

Filmed in high definition in New York City in 2010, the musical celebration of the great Les Paul (who died in 2009) features selections of his songs and other great rock ‘n’ roll tracks. Additionally, ATCO released a CD of the show, featuring 20 live tracks from the evening, on the same day.

On June 9, 2010, which would have been Paul’s 95th birthday, legendary guitarist and five-time Grammy Award-winner Jeff Beck and a host of special guests paid homage to the musical icon at New York’s Iridium Jazz Club, the very venue where Paul performed every Monday night for more than 10 years. The guest appearances include rockabilly songstress Imelda May and her band, Gary “US” Bonds, Brian Setzer and Trombone Shorty. Also seen in the program (in the audience, not on stage) are David Bowie, Meat Loaf, Steven Van Zandt, Paul Shaffer, Kirk Hammett and Nils Lofgren.

Among the 27 classic songs covered in Rock ‘N’ Roll Party are “Bye Bye Blues,” “Sitting On Top of the World,” “Mockin’ Bird Hill,” “Peter Gunn,” “How High the Moon,” “New Orleans,” and “Walking In the Sand.”

Bonus features on the DVD and Blu-ray include the following:

  • interview with Jeff Beck
  • “At Home With Jeff Beck & His Guitars” featurette
  • “Jeff Beck & Les Paul: Rock ‘n’ Roll Tonite” featurette
  • “Les Paul & His Little Black Box” featurette

The Blu-ray and DVD carry the lists price of $19.98 and $14.98, respectively.

Beck and Imelda May took the tribute show on the road in March and April 2011.
