New Release: Chronicles of Narnia Voyage of the Dawn Treader DVD, Blu-ray

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader movie sceneWalden Media’s third film adaptation of C.S. Lewis‘ timeless children’s novels, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, was released on DVD and Blu-ray on April 8, 2011, from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.

With returning actors Georgie Henley as Lucy, Skandar Keynes as Edmund, Ben Barnes (Stardust) as Caspian and the voice of Liam Neeson (The A-Team) as Aslan, the movie introduces the Pevensies’ spoiled cousin Eustace (Will Poulter, Son of Rambow) who’s whisked into Narnia with Lucy and Edmund as they go on another adventure. This time, the children meet up with Prince Caspian’s Dawn Treader ship and help restore peace by returning stolen swords to their rightful place, all the while learning how to change themselves in the face of temptation. Instead of Eddie Izzard (TV’s United States of Tara), Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead) takes over the voice of the cute swashbuckling mouse Reepicheep.

Although the adventure film didn’t gross as much as its predecessors, The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe with $292 million and Prince Caspian at $142 million, the PG-rated Dawn Treader still earned a solid $101 million in theaters. This is the first movie in the series to be distributed by Fox. The first two were released by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment.

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader was priced at $29.98 in a two-DVD set and $39.99 for the Blu-ray/DVD combo pack with a downloadable digital copy of the movie.

Here are the special features for the two-DVD set:

  • deleted scenes
  • commentary by director Michael Apted and producer Mark Johnson
  • animated short “The Untold Adventures of the Dawn Treader”
  • featurette “King Caspian’s Guide to the Dawn Treader: Legends and Lore of the Great Ship”
  • 5 Islands Explorations
  • seven-featurette “Narnian Discoveries: Friends and Foes of Narnia”
  • four Fox Movie Channel Presents behind-the-scenes featurettes
