New Release: The Green Hornet DVD, Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D

The Green Hornet movie scenePerhaps one of the best reviewed live-action 3D movies as of this writing, it should come as no surprise that The Green Hornet was released simultaneously on DVD, Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D on May 3, 2011, from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

Based on the old radio series and TV show, the action movie stars Seth Rogen (Knocked Up) as playboy Britt Reid, who inherits his father’s (Tom Wilkinson, TV’s The Kennedys) large company after his father dies suddenly. When Reid and his driver, kung fu expert Kato (Jay Chou, Curse of the Golden Flower), stop a robbery, Reid decides to join with Kato to become a masked crime fighting team. Cameron Diaz (Knight and Day) also stars in The Green Hornet, which is the first action movie directed by predominantly indie filmmaker Michael Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind).

Although the reviews for the film were so-so, the movie scored well on the 3D front, with many reviewers saying that, for a live-action film, it had the best use of the 3D technology.

The PG-13 movie, which was also partly written by Rogen, grossed $87 million when it ran in theaters.

The movie was priced at $28.95 on DVD, $34.95 for the regular Blu-ray and $49.95 for the three-disc Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD combo.

If you’re a fan of the 1960s TV show with Bruce Lee, that’s also available on DVD.
