New Release: The Hit List DVD and Blu-ray

The Hit List movie sceneOscar-winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr. (Best Supporting Actor for Jerry Maguire) is back in a new DVD/Blu-ray premiere movie released by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, The Hit List, and although non-theatrical films can be hit and miss, this one looks like it has potential.

Delivered on DVD and Blu-ray on May 10, 2011, the action thriller film pairs Gooding with Cole Hauser (TV’s Chase) in a cat and mouse tale, and unlike most of Gooding’s movies, he’s not the mouse. In The Hit List, businessman Hauser goes to a bar complaining about being passed over for a promotion. He meets Gooding, who says he’s a professional hit man and challenges Hauser to try him out by writing five names on a napkins. Thinking it’s a joke, Hauser goes along with it, but when those people start turning up dead, Hauser must find and stop Gooding before he finishes off the list.

The Hit List also stars Jonathan LaPaglia (TV’s Cold Case) and Ginny Weirick (Dark Moon Rising).

If you can get passed the fact that Gooding is willing to do these jobs for free — and that Hauser so readily gives up names of real people — the movie looks like it could be a fast-paced thriller. (See the trailer below.)

The DVD was priced at $24.96 and Blu-ray at $30.95.

Sony hasn’t included any special features on either format.

Gooding also starred in Sony’s DVD premiere movie Ticking Clock.
