New Release: The Roommate DVD and Blu-ray

The RoommateTeen thriller The Roommate, which stars Minka Kelly (Just Go With It), Leighton Meester (Country Strong) and Cam Gigandet (Burlesque), was released on disc on May 17, 2011, from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

As well as DVD and Blu-ray, the PG-13 rated movie about a college student’s obsession with her roommate was made available for rental and purchase as a digital download the same day.

Reminiscent of 1992’s Single White Female with Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh but in college, the film scored only $33 million in a quick run in theaters and not great reviews. But when you consider that it was made for an estimated $16 million by production company Screen Gems, the movie’s already a financial success.

Directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Christian E. Christiansen (nominee for Best Short Film, Live Action in 2008), The Roommate also stars Billy Zane (Titanic, Sniper: Reloaded) and Alyson Michalka (Easy A).

Here are the special features Sony has planned for the Blu-ray:

  • commentary by director Christian E. Christiansen
  • Sony’s MovieIQ feature
  • alternate opening sequence
  • featurett “Obsession: The Making of The Roommate
  • featurette: “The Roommate: Next Generation of Stars”
  • and featurette “Dressing Dangerously”
  • The DVD contain only the commentary and alternate opening sequence.

The DVD was priced at $28.95 and the Blu-ray at $34.95.
