New Release: Beastly DVD and Blu-ray

BeastlyThe romantic fantasy Beastly was released on DVD and Blu-ray on June 28, 2011, from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

Based on the New York Times bestseller of the same name, Beastly stars Alex Pettyfer (I Am Number Four) as a weathly New York teen who seems to have everything, until a curse transforms his good-looking face into one that’s almost unrecognizable and he’s left to find true love.

Rated PG-13, the film also stars Justin Bradley (The Trotsky), Mary-Kate Olsen (TV’s Weeds), Vanessa Hudgens (Sucker Punch), Peter Krause (TV’s Parenthood), Lisa Gay Hamilton (TV’s Men of a Certain Age) and Neil Patrick Harris (TV’s How I Met Your Mother).

The original young adult novel, written by Alex Flinn, won numerous honors, inlcuding named an American Library Association Quick Pick for Reluctant Young Adult Readers in 2008. But the film, which grossed $22 million in theaters, debuted to mixed reviews.

The DVD and Blu-ray include the same special features:

  • alternate ending
  • deleted scenes
  • Kristina and the Dolls music video for “Be Mine”
  • featurette “A Classic Tale Retold: The Story of Beastly”
  • and featurette “Creating the Perfect Beast.”

The DVD was priced at $28.95 and the Blu-ray at $34.95
