21 Jump StreetAnother in Hollywood’s line of movie adaptations of older TV shows, 21 Jump Street brings the high school detectives to the present, with Channing Tatum (Haywire) and Jonah Hill (Moneyball) heading back to school to solve a crime.

In high school, Tatum and Hill were the jock and geek, respectively, but in Police Academy, they discover they’re better if they join forces. The unlikely pair of underachievers are assigned to blend in at a high school to bring down a synthetic drug ring. Things get complicated, however, when they mix up their identities during registration then start to enjoy their new school experiences.

The satire got good reviews from critics and moviegoers, calling it affectionate to the 1980s television series (and it does have a fun twist at the end in that vein).

It’s the second feature film directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, whose first was the animated comedy Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.

21 Jump Street Blu-ray boxRated R, 21 Jump Street also stars Ice Cube (Boyz N the Hood), Chris Parnell (TV’s Archer) and Ellie Kemper (TV’s The Office).

The movie grossed $132 million when it was in theaters — sequel, anyone? — and comes with special features on DVD and Blu-ray. Here’s the DVD list:

  • commentary with the directors and cast members
  • “Back to School”

The Blu-ray also has these extras:

  • gag reel
  • “Cube-O-Rama”
  • “Not So Slim Shady”
  • “Brothers In Arms”
  • “Johnny Depp On Set”
  • “The Rob Riggle Show”
  • “Peter Pan on the Freeway”

Both the DVD and Blu-ray offer a digital copy of 21 Jump Street via UltraViolet.
