The Bourne LegacyThe fourth movie in the spy franchise inspired by Robert Ludlum‘s book, The Bourne Legacy brings a new star to the story: Jeremy Renner (Marvel’s The Avengers).

Renner plays Aaron Cross, a new breed of superspy who’s forced to go on the run after the actions of Jason Bourne from the previous films causes the government to end all its other secret operations. And that end also means the scientists behind the superspies, including Dr. Marta Shearing (Rachel Weisz, Dream House). Together, Cross and Shearing must find a way to survive.

Scott Glenn (Sucker Punch), Stacy Keach (TV’s Lights Out) and Edward Norton (Moonrise Kingdom) also star in the thriller film. The Bourne Legacy is the first movie in the series directed by Tony Gilroy, who wrote the screenplays for all the other films and co-wrote the action film with Dan Gilroy (Real Steel).

Although not as high an earner as its predecessors, The Bourne Legacy grossed a healthy $113 million in theaters. But the film got mixed reviews from critics and moviegoers. IndieWire critic Leonard Maltin wrote that the movie “may not be perfect, but [it’s] good enough to provide the kind of action and storytelling that Bourne fans expect.” But Newark Star-Ledger‘s Stephen Whitty wrote, “It’s twists and turns and nothing else.”
