For his latest documentary film, Happy People: A Year in the Taiga, the great Werner Herzog (Cave of Forgotten Dreams) actually used someone else’s material to fuel his obsessive examination of man and nature and those unique places in the world where the two meet head-on.
Happy People: A Year in the Taiga is actually a edited-down version of a four-hour-long Russian television documentary by Dmitry Vasyukov, framed with Herzog’s patented quirky narration. The film follows the lives of the hunters, trappers and fishermen of the small Siberian village of Bakhta through all four seasons of the year—from the winter, when the river freezes over and snows cover the sub-zero land, through the eventual thaw and up to the approaching chill of autumn and the beginning of the cycle anew.
It’s a fascinating subject and an outstanding piece of film…and Music Box Home Films has provided Disc Dish three copies of Happy People: A Year in the Taiga on DVD to give away to three lucky readers!
This movie was just released on DVD and is priced at $29.95, but you can enter to win a copy of the DVD at Disc Dish. All you have to do is:
1. If you don’t already, Like Disc Dish on Facebook, Follow Disc Dish on Twitter or subscribe to Disc Dish by email (see the box on the right), then leave a comment on this page, bit.ly/YSbnr1, saying whether you’re a Facebook or Twitter fan or email subscriber. 2. Link to this page from your Facebook profile, Twitter account, Digg, Reddit.com, blog or wherever you hang out online and put a link to it in the comments on this page. You’ll get an extra entry for each link. (Sorry, but links added to the Disc Dish Facebook page don’t count.)
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 every day for even more chances to win.
This giveaway runs through midnight, Tuesday, April 30, and the winners will be chosen by Random.org and announced here on May 1. So, make sure you check back to see if you won.
