New Release: Blue Valentine DVD and Blu-ray

Blue Valentine movie sceneDrama romance Blue Valentine was issed on DVD and Blu-ray on May 10, 2011, by The Weinstein Company and Anchor Bay Entertainment, the independent film was nominated for a best actress Academy Award for Michelle Williams (Shutter Island).

The R-rated movie follows the evolution of the relationship between married couple Williams and Ryan Gosling (Lars and the Real Girl) over a number of years. Crossing between time periods, the movie examines when the couple meet, Gosling a high-school dropout and Williams a nursing student. Then on to when they’re married with a daughter and Gosling’s looks are fading, but Cindy’s aren’t, and other times.

The film, which was briefly rated NC-17 for its sexual content, had a limited release in theaters and has grossed $4.5 million.

It was nominated for Golden Globes for both Gosling (best actor) and Williams (best actress), but didn’t win. Check out all the Oscar-nominated movies on disc.

The DVD was priced at $29.98 and Blu-ray at $39.99.

On DVD and Blu-ray, Blue Valentine is uncut and uncensored, and both versions include these special features:

  • audio commentary with director Derek Cianfrance and co-editor Jim Helton
  • making-of featurette
  • home movie
  • and deleted scenes.
