New Release: Police Story: Season 1 DVD

Police Story: Season One scene

Don Meredith (l.) and Tony Lo Bianco are two of many stars of Police Story.

Shout! Factory released the first season of the revered 1970s television show Police Story in a six-DVD set on Sept. 6, 2011. It marks the TV series’ home entertainment debut. The Police Story: Season One DVD carries the list price of $39.97.

Created by ex-cop-turned-best-selling-author Joseph Wambaugh (The Onion Field), Police Story was broadcast for five seasons on NBC from 1973 to 1978.

An anthology show detailing the lives of LAPD officers via a collection of realistic and drama-filled crime stories, Police Story had no regular cast, with each show featuring different stars each week. There was, however, a rotating acting ensemble of performers who popped up regularly, including James Farentino (Jesus of Nazareth), Tony Lo Bianco (Kill the Irishman), Don Meredith (TV’s NFL Monday Night Football), Vic Morrow (Combat!), and Laraine Stephens (TV’s Matt Helm).

The Police Story: Season One DVD contains all 21 episodes from the first season (1973-74), one of which, “The Gamble,” features Angie Dickinson (Big Bad Mama), who went on to star in the spin-off show Police Woman the following year.

The set also contains the following bonus features:

  • Slow Boy pilot film for the show
  • Big John Morrison movie of the week
  • “Cop Talk” new interview with show creator, author and former LAPD Detective Sergeant Joseph Wambaugh
