Bonnie & ClydeEmile Hirsch (Savages) and Holliday Grainger (TV’s The Borgias) play the notorious couple in 2013’s TV mini-series Bonnie & Clyde.

The show follows the legendary romance and crime spree of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow. Bonnie’s obsession with fame pushes them to commit increasingly dangerous robberies, leaving behind them a trail of blood and headlines. They stayed ahead of authorities for a while, until their final showdown.

Oscar-winners Holly Hunter (The Piano) and William Hurt (Moby Dick) also star in the miniseries, which was directed by Bruce Beresford (Mao’s Last Dancer) on a script by Joe Batteer and John Rice, the team behind Windtalkers and TV movie Anna Nicole.

Bonnie & Clyde aired on History, Lifetime and A&E to mixed but generally positive reviews from critics. Miami Herald‘s Glenn Garvin called it a “perfectly entertaining gangster picture.” Erin McCann of the U.K.’s The Guardian, however, wrote: “The crime here isn’t that they’ve had the gall to remake Bonnie and Clyde — it’s just that they did it so badly.”

You be the judge on disc. Both the DVD and Blu-ray offer three featurettes:

  • “Iconography: The Story of Bonnie & Clyde” with director Bruce Beresford going behind the scenes to look at costumes, props and sets used to create the Depression-era scenes
  • “Becoming Bonnie” about Holliday Grainger’s interpretation of the role
  • “Becoming Clyde” about Emile Hirsch’s performance.

The Blu-ray also adds the exclusive featurette “A Legendary Story Revisted,” with writers John Rice and Joe Batteer talking about their creative decisions for the miniseries’ story.
