Friends With BenefitsRomantic comedy Friends With Benefits stars Mila Kunis (Black Swan) and Justin Timberlake (Bad Teacher) as, well, friends with benefits.

Kunis plays Jamie, who doesn’t want to buy into Hollywood cliches of true love, and Timberlake is Dylan, who is over relationships. When they become friends, they decide to try for something phsycial without the entanglements, but soon realize that romantic comedy stereotypes are around for a reason.

Patricia Clarkson (Easy A), Jenna Elfman (Love Hurts), Richard Jenkins (Eat Pray Love), Woody Harrelson (The Messenger) and Saturday Night Live‘s Andy Samberg also star.

Rated R, the movie got shadowed by the similar No Strings Attached, starring Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher. The earlier film grossed $70 million, more than Friends With Benefits‘ $55.8 million.

But, Friends scored much better with critics and audience members, 72% and 70%, respectively, according to Rotten Tomatoes. Richard Roeper called the movie “the best romantic comedy of the year,” and New York Magazine‘s Logan Hill said “Friends With Benefits is the Red Bull of romantic comedies.” So it’s worth a look in disc if you gave it a miss at the box office.

Friends With Benefits Blu-ray/DVD boxThe DVD includes these special features:

  • commentary with writer/director Will Gluck (who also directed Clarkson in Easy A), Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis
  • deleted scenes
  • outtakes.

Both Blu-ray versions contain those plus these extras:

  • pop-up trivia track
  • “On Set With FWB” featurette
  • and “In a Flash: Choreographing a Mob” featurette.

The Blu-ray/DVD combo doesn’t have any bonuses, just both the standard-definition DVD and high-definition Blu-ray discs in one set.
