The CallHalle Berry (Cloud Atlas) must face her past in the thriller The Call.

In the movie, Berry plays Jordan Turner, a veteran 911 operator who takes a call from teenager Casey Welson (Abigail Breslin, New Year’s Eve), who has been abducted in the back of a man’s car.

Jordan must use all her experience, insight and quick thinking to help Casey escape. But, faced with a killer from her past, Jordan also wants to make sure the man is brought to justice.

Rated R, The Call was directed by Brad Anderson, who’s best known as helmer for such TV series as The Killing but also gave us the disturbing 2008 psychological thriller Session 9.

The film didn’t impress critics but pleased moviegoers a lot more, receiving only 39% approval from critics but 71% from moviegoers. ReelViews‘ James Berardinelli called The Call “as brain-dead as a movie can be,” but Newark Star-Ledger critic Stephen Whitty wrote, “It’s a lot better than you might expect a movie like this to be.”

Moviegoers liked it enough for the film to earn $51 million in theaters.

The Blu-ray and DVD contain these special features:

  • featurette “Emergency Procedure: Making the Film,” which follows the movie’s production from Richard D’Ovidio’s (Thirteen Ghosts) screenplay to the final fays of production
  • commentary with Berry, Breslin and the filmmakers.

The Blu-ray/DVD Combo also carries these extras:

  • alternate ending
  • deleted and extended scenes
  • Michael Eklund’s audition tape
  • featurette “A Set Tour of The Hive and The Lair” with director Brad Anderson giving a tour of the Lair and the production designer giving a tour of the call center known as The Hive
  • “Inside the Stunts,” with the stunt coordinator, pyrotechnics experts, actors and stuntmen talking about the gas station fire scene.
