Canceled CW TV show Life Unexpected lives on on DVD. Warner Home Video released Life Unexpected: The Complete Series on April 5, 2011.
Season one of the drama series was due to be released on DVD in January, but it was replaced with the complete series set after the show was canceled during its second season. The series was nominated in 2010 for the Teen Choice Awards’ TV Breakout Show.
The television series follows the 15-year-old Lux (Brittany Robertson, Dan in Real Life), who decides to become an emancipated minor after spending her life bouncing between foster families. During her legal efforts, she finds her biological father, thirtysomething Nate “Baze” Bazile (Kristoffer Polaha, TV’s Mad Men), who lives above a bar and is shocked to find he has a daughter. Her mother, Cate Cassidy (Shiri Appleby, TV’s ER), is a local radio star. Instead of emancipating Lux, a judge grants custody to Baze and Cate, and a new chapter in their lives begins.
Priced at $59.98, the six-disc set includes all the episodes of the series’ first and second seasons.
The DVD set also contains these special features:
- featurette “Life in Portland: The Making of Life Unexpected“
- and featurette “Lux, Cate, Baze & Math: The Casting of Life Unexpected.”

This has been such a great drama – excellent show all around,
Sorry to see it go and shame on CW for not giving it much of a chance.
Yeah, Tom. Networks don’t give good shows enough time. At least we can continue to see the episodes we love on DVD.
