Upstairs Downstairs, the 2010 version of the beloved British TV series from the 1970s, arrived on DVD on April 26, 2011, from BBC Home Entertainment, distributed by Warner Home Video.
The new three-episode Upstairs Downstairs mini series picks up the story of life and love in a very special London townhouse. It’s 1936, six years since parlor maid Rose (Jean Marsh, who recreates her role from the original Upstairs Downstairs) left 165 Eaton Place. Fate brings her back as housekeeper to its new owners: Sir Hallam (Ed Stoppard) and his wife Lady Agnes (Keeley Hawes), and Maud, Lady Holland (Eileen Atkins), his mother.
Rose soon finds she has her work cut out as she recruits a new ‘downstairs’ family to help run the elegance and finery of the ‘upstairs’ world. For both upstairs and downstairs, it soon becomes apparent there exists a labyrinth of secrets, lies and scandal, set against the historical backdrop of a Britain with a new king.
The television show was broadcast Stateside on BBC America in April prior to its DVD debut.
The Upstairs Downstairs DVD carries a list price of $34.98.
Acorn Media re-issued the original Upstairs Downstairs in a complete series box set in March 2011.
