AC/DC: Let There Be Rock movie scene

AC/DC's metal is heavy in Let There Be Rock.

Warner Home Video released the 1982 concert film AC/DC: Let There Be Rock on DVD and Blu-ray on June 7, 2011, marking the digital debut of the 1982 performance piece featuring the noted legendary heavy metal outfit.

The Let There Be Rock Limited Collector’s Edition Blu-ray and DVD — which is packaged in a steel box, as is befitting one of the most popular heavy metal acts of all time — carries the list prices of $44.98 and $39.98.

Highly regarded by AC/DC fans, who generally consider the film to have captured the band at the height of their powers, covers a 1979 Paris concert during AC/DC’s “Highway To Hell” tour showcases the power and precision that the quintet bring to vicious rockers. Guitarist Angus Young and singer Bon Scott and company are captured in all their head-banging glory, performing such numbers as “Whole Lotta Rosie” and “Let There Be Rock.” Interview segments and humorous backstage footage show another side to the musicians, especially the flamboyant Scott, who died two months after this filmed concert.

Here’s the set list breakdown:

  • “Live Wire”
  • “Shot Down in Flames”
  • “Hell Ain’t A Bad Place To Be”
  • “Sin City”
  • “Walk All Over You”
  • “Bad Boy Boogie”
  • “The Jack”
  • “Highway To Hell”
  • “Girls Got Rhythm”
  • “High Voltage”
  • “Whole Lotta Rosie”
  • “Rocker”

Here’s a list of the extensive bonus features on both the DVD and Blu-ray. Many of them feature talking head segments with such noted musicians (and avowed AC/DC fans) as Lemmy from Motorhead, Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins and Rick Allen of Def Leppard:

  • “Loud, Locked & Loaded: The Rites of Rock” with rockers, actors and journalists recollecting their rite of passage as early witnesses to the raw, bone rattling rock of AC/DC.
  • “AC/DC: The Bedrock of Riff,” a look at Angus and Malcolm Young’s telepathic groove and the four-on-the-floor swing of Mark Rudd.
  • “Angus Young: A True Guitar Monster”
  • “Bon Scott: The Pirate of Rock ‘n’ Roll” Bon Scott was the ringleader of the AC/DC circus, balancing his screaming sexuality with a rakish charm. Get a glimpse into the life of a classic Rock ‘n’ Roll pirate.
  • “AC/DC: A Rock Solid Legacy” From bar band to arena rock, AC/DC stuck to their guns and shot their way to the top. Fellow rockers and journalists chart AC/DC’s ascent into the Pantheon of Rock Gods in rock ‘n’ roll history.
  • six song-specific interviews
  • 32-page custom mini book
  • custom guitar pick
  • 10 postcards with images from the show
